These Shreveport, La., home owners designed a Low Country Coastal style home that allows them to age-in-place within the traditional neighborhood development of Provenance. The home faces Magnolia Park, a new interior park by community nature trails.

The home owners downsized from a grand three-story home to this manageable house to host their kids and grandchildren without sacrificing charm and convenience by using built-ins and hidden storage solutions. The first floor features three bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, an open kitchen and dining room, great room, court porch and three-car garage totaling 2,235 square feet. The multifunctioning court porch is a grilling porch, sunroom, entertainment overflow area and cigar lounge. Special attention was placed on the air conditioning, ventilation and window function in this one-of-a-kind-space!

The charming wide front porch extends the interior with swing seating and dining area.

The second floor is a spray-foam-insulated attic accessed through the garage staircase that provides plenty of energy-efficient storage even in sweltering summers. Twelve-foot ceilings, metal roof, shiplap and light neutral colors cement the coastal look. Tall windows and doors let in natural light and park views.

Widened hallways and doorways, an easy-to-navigate layout, oversized showers and pull-out drawers allow future handicap accessibility accommodations.

Judges’ Comments | The front porch in front of the screened-in porch is pretty clever, with both facing the central green space for views.
