Benefits of Membership
Three-in-one membership!
Your membership includes three professional trade associations for the price of one: Home Builders Association of Northwest Indiana (HBA of NWI), Indiana Builders Association (IBA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) — all working on your behalf to help you promote your business and keep the home-building industry strong and protected.
Professional Credibility
The marketplace is crowded and competitive—membership in the HBA of NWI, IBA and NAHB separates you from the “other guys.” Membership speaks volumes about your dedication to your customers, your business and the home-building industry. For nearly 70 years, the National Association of Home Builders has been an essential part of building communities in our nation, and for over sixty years members of this local have been an essential part of building communities in Northwest Indiana. Members have the ability to get their voice heard through advocacy efforts of the IBA. Learn more about continual benefits for IBA members.
Referrals and Relationships
The HBA of NWI office receives calls from consumers for member referrals, and we send them to the membership directory on this website. We are planning for multiple channels to promote this website to the public, so keeping your information up-to-date here is imperative!
What’s more, our motto is “Do Business with a Member;” members are encouraged to do business with and refer to each other. The more active the member, the more likely one is to receive referrals. It’s a matter of exposure! Get involved! Join a committee! Attend a meeting and talk to people. It will pay off!
Marketing, Sales and Lead Generation
Members receive substantial booth discounts at the Porter County Home Improvement Market (up to 30% over nonmembers). The spring show attracts thousands of Northwest Indiana residents. Many of our members comment that the leads from the show result in sales that carry them through the whole year. After the home show wraps up, our team begins planning the NWI New Home Tour, a tour of newly-constructed homes scattered throughout Lake and Porter Counties, and the Parade of Homes, a tour of new homes built near each other in one development. Both events promote home-builders and the trades that work on the houses. The events attract qualified buyers, resulting in building contracts and home sales. Participating members receive a discount of up to 40% over nonmembers.
Plus members may co-market their companies with the HBA of NWI by partnering in advertising these events. Additional co-marketing opportunities are available through electronic and printed publications and smaller events throughout the year. And members can advertise on this website to consumers searching for the services and products our members provide here in Northwest Indiana.
These co-marketing opportunities allow members to reach their target markets with advertising at a lower cost than advertising their businesses alone. All of these opportunities increase brand awareness and loyalty, sales and lead generation.

Members receive free access to NAHB’s team of legal research staff, economists, finance experts, and regulatory and technical specialists. Also, if the case meets the requirements, members may request assistance from IBA’s Indiana Housing Protection Fund. The Fund defrays the litigation costs of cases with statewide significance to the housing industry.
Education
On a local level, members benefit from educational programs on topics important to and often critical to their businesses, such as: EPA lead safety, code training, business management, local economic forecast, etc.
Also, IBA, the state association, hosts educational programs throughout the year to help members gain a cutting edge advantage. Seminars often qualify for continuing education credits for Indiana’s Real Estate License and Home Inspector License. Also Professional Designation Programs administered by IBA offer accredited curriculums taught by skilled professionals that sharpen business skills and marketability.
Additionally, NAHB offers tradeshows, workshops, conferences, online learning opportunities and more, all designed to help members reach their full potential.

Late breaking news, trends
All three levels—local, state, and national—keep members informed of issues and industry trends that affect business through a mix of emails, newsletters, publications and webinars. HBA of NWI communicates important local issues through email, electronic newsletter and this website.
IBA publishes Indiana Builder News six times per year, and the IBA website, www.buildindiana.org, is updated regularly with the latest state housing industry news. The NAHB website, www.nahb.org, gives members access to the latest national housing industry news and information 24 hours a day. Logged in members receive content developed exclusively for them (you will need your membership ID and pin number). And, NAHB publishes Builder magazine, with monthly issues keeping members up-to-date concerning the building industry on a national level.
We protect your business interests
On a local level, your business interests are represented by the HBA of NWI’s Builders Government Affairs Committee which keeps an eye on local government plans and decisions that will impact the housing industry.
On a state level, the Indiana Builders Association has experienced lobbyists working on your behalf daily to monitor and work for the enactment of and/or defeat hundreds of legislative and regulatory initiatives.
On a national level, as “the voice of the housing industry,” NAHB fights for your interests. NAHB has the strength in numbers to defeat excessive regulations and needless red tape and defend affordable housing initiates—on Capitol Hill, in your home state, and in the communities where you do business.
In addition, HBA of NWI, IBA and the NAHB have created political action committees to disperse funds to candidates for elective office who are pro-growth and pro-housing.
