The HBA of NWI is pleased to host the 2023 Building Code Update Seminar  at    INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY –   Education and Conference Center in Merrillville, IN this year. Join industry professionals for a day filled with education relating to NEW CODE LAWS.  The day will start with a Continental Breakfast, networking, seminar with key insights on code changes  that will influence the homebuilding industry in 2023.  The event features presentations from experts in code that will affect building in Northwest Indiana. Matthew Brown

Matt Brown, AKA BBQ Man, is an Engineered Wood Specialist at APA – The Engineered Wood Association. He is located in Indiana and serves the greater Chicago area and surrounding region. He works to educate the wood industry on the impacts of energy efficiency and educate the raters, code officials, designers and builders on the advantages of wood construction for energy efficiency and sustainability. Matt’s career in the construction industry began over 15 years ago and has worked for a large regional production builder,  an energy rating and engineering firm and joined the APA in 2014.

TIM HENKE

Tim Henke, Building Official; Town of Lowell.

Tim is responsible for managing, coordinating, and the overall supervision of building in the town of Lowell. This includes building permit processing, contractor licensing, building permit plan review, building inspection, and building code compliance. Tim is a ICC Certified B1 Residential Building Inspector and a member of the Indiana Association of Building Officials. (IABO)

Tim has 25 years of experience as a General contractor and business owner. 

He has completed commercial, restaurant, and hotel work across ten states. 

In addition, he had done residential work in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties in Indiana and Kankakee county in Illinois.
